If you pick up an Android smartphone today you should probably make sure the device you are picking up will get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich some time in the future if it doesn’t already run Ice Cream Sandwich. Most HTC, Samsung, Sony, and Motorola smartphones will get the update. Those are a few of the major Android smartphone OEMs out there today. LG is another one of them and today they detailed their plans to update their phones to Ice Cream Sandwich.
LG seems to have a fairly similar strategy to Sony, they both plan to wait and update their Android devices to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich during the second quarter of 2012. We know when Sony will exactly roll out their updates during Q2 but that’s not the case with LG. However we still know the smartphones which will get the updates. Most of the more high end LG smartphones are included on the list.
The LG Optimus 2X, Optimus LTE, and the upcoming Prada Phone will all get the updates first. Then other phones including the LG Optimus 3D, Optimus Black, and Optimus Big will get the update during the third quarter of 2012. I guess eventually getting the update to Ice Cream Sandwich is better than never getting the update. But if some of the phones don’t get updates until the third quarter of the year it might be quite a while until all of the United States versions of these LG phones get the update.
