Apple's iPhone 4 has just received an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records 2011 Gamer Edition for being the fastest selling portable gaming system in history. To top that, the iOS App Store has also received entries for being the most popular application marketplace.
Apple sold 1.5 million devices just on the first days after the official iPhone 4 release. "For comparison, the PSP shifted 200,000 units on its launch date in 2005, and the DS took a week to move 500,000 consoles in November 2004," Guinness said in a statement.
The App Store made three records on the list.
- "Most popular application marketplace" with 6.5 billion downloads since launch
- "The largest downloadable video game store" with a staggering with 37,362 games as of September 2010 (according to the statement)
- "The largest launch line-up of any gaming system" at 145 games out of the 500 apps at launch
But that's not all. App Store success stories like Angry Birds also received World Records "top paid-for App Store game in most countries," after selling 6.5 million copies in 67 countries.
